Preventing Suicide

For emergency situations:

1)  GW Campus Advisory for information about loval crises affecting the GW community

2)  On-campus students experiencing emergencies should immediately call UPD at 994-6111, (MVC: 242-  6111)

3)  Off-campus students experiencing emergencies should call 991

4)  Or proceed to the nearest hospital emergency room or urgent care center

5)  24hours day/7days week - students may call the University Counseling center at 994-5300 to consult with a counselor (Call-A-Counselor) regarding student and campus emergency situations or an urgent need for services.

 

University Counseling Center staff are part of University crisis response teams in cases of assault, rape, terrorism, suicide, or death on campus.  On campus GW Housing Programs (GWHP) staff and University Police are also trained to respond immediately to these crises.  Counseling Center staff work closely with the Student Health Service and the GW Psychiatry Department to arrange hospitalization for students when necessary.
