The Electronic Learning and Study Strategies Inventory (E-LASSI)
The E-LASSI is a helpful assessment tool for students who want to improve their exam scores or grades. Through this inventory, students can assess the strengths and weaknesses of their study strategies. To take the E-LASSI, call our office at 202-994-5300 to set up a convenient time. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete. There is a $15 fee for the E-LASSI test and a $50 fee for an interpretation and feedback session during which your results will be given to you.

After completing the E-LASSI, you will receive a profile of your scores related to:
• Attitude Towards College
• Level of Motivation
• Time Management Skills
• Anxiety About Academic Performance
• Concentration Level
• Information Processing Skills
• Ability to Select Main Ideas
• Use of Study Aids
• Test Preparation Abilities
• Utilization of Test Strategies .

Your scores will be compared to national norms for college students. A score below 75% on any scale would indicate difficulty in that particular area. If you are having difficulty in one or more areas, you might want to develop a plan for improving your skills. If you score below the 50th percentile on two or more scales, or the majority of your scores are below the 75th percentile, your counselor will help you develop a plan of action for improving study or learning strategies. If, in addition to low scores on a majority of scales, you are struggling with other personal issues which may impede your academic performance, your counselor may recommend that you set up an initial consultation appointment with the UCC. At this appointment, a counselor will help you clarify the personal and academic concerns that may affect your performance at GW, and may recommend further counseling services to work on your concerns.

Academic Progress Group
This group offers problem-solving and support for students who are unhappy with their motivation and academic achievement at GW. Participants will be asked to commit to a behavioral contract that includes attending all classes and group meetings, maintaining an academic calendar, completing assignments on time, and meeting with professors, T.A.s, and advisors. Participants will work together to identify their concerns and to establish obtainable goals. For example, members may want to explore how to talk with professors, manage their time, prepare for tests, or deal with family pressures. Confidentiality among group members is a fundamental principle and will be strictly upheld. Although group meetings may differ in content and process, they all require active participation and consistent investment from each member.
