Clinical Affiliate Position

CLINICAL AFFILIATE POSITION
The George Washington University Counseling Center is accepting applications for the Clinical Affiliate position in psychology during the 2008-2009 academic year. This is a 10-month position that provides supervised training in short-term individual counseling for university students.  Clinical Affiliates are expected to spend a minimum of eight hours per week at the UCC, but this time can be extended depending on their own clinical interests. The eight hour commitment includes five individual client hours, one hour of individual supervision, and time for clinical and supervision preparation, reading, seminar/discussions, and clinical paperwork.  Additional time can be added for participation in our group therapy program and/or outreach, depending on the individual student’s interests and experience.  This is a non-paid position.  


THE COUNSELING CENTER

The George Washington University Counseling Center provides mental health services to undergraduate and graduate students at GWU. Services target a large and diverse student population. In addition to providing psychological counseling, the Center offers academic skills and career counseling and workshops.  Our staff possess a range of theoretical orientations, with significant interest and expertise in relational-interpersonal and humanistic approaches.  Most staff members are integrative and tailor their approach to meet the short-term needs of our students. 


APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be doctoral students in APA-approved counseling psychology or clinical psychology training programs. Applicants must have completed at least two years of their graduate programs, and preference is given to applicants who have completed a minimum of 3 practica. Clinical Affiliates typically are in their fourth year of training.
