History of the UCC
The
University Counseling Center at GW was established in the mid
1940's. Originally it was organized to provide educational/vocational
assessment for World War II veterans. By the early 1960's, the Center
was evolving into its present form. The past 60 years have witnessed
many changes in services, staff, and clientele.
The University
Counseling Center (UCC) is housed within the Division of Student and
Academic Support Services (SASS). The UCC consults and
collaborates with all of these departments in providing services or
programs for students and, occasionally, training for their staffs. The
UCC is dedicated to improving the quality of student life and to
enhancing the educational experience of students at GW. Services and
programs are designed to assist students with their transition to and
from GW, their growth and development while at GW, and personal,
social, career, and academic problems that can interfere with their
educational goals.
