Academic Welcome

While I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting you personally, I have already developed high expectations of you based on the academic credentials, valuable experiences, and educational values that you bring to GW. I look forward to the many contributions you will make to intellectual life here by applying your curiosity and work ethic to the pursuit of new knowledge and ideas.

As you enjoy Colonial Inauguration, I encourage you to stay mindful of what it is we are working together to achieve. It is the hope and expectation of the faculty that once you cross the stage to accept your GW diploma, you will have a foundation of knowledge in the arts and sciences, and you will have developed the skills required for continuous learning by tackling increasingly complex courses within your academic major. To work with you toward this goal, the faculty will challenge you to think critically, write and speak with clarity and conviction, analyze problems, engage in research, and integrate coursework with other learning opportunities available on campus and in the DC metropolitan area. It is by seeking out and accepting these challenges that you will create an intellectual life for yourself that is rich and honorable. It is by accepting the more rigorous path that you will become empowered to pursue your life’s work in ways that are both personally meaningful and benefi cial to the global society that we share.

The best that GW has to offer awaits you. Let the academic journey begin!
