Co-Curricular Programs

Choosing a Co-Curricular Program

If you're interested in any of the co-curricular programs below, please be sure to make that selection during your CI registration!

Students who have gone through these programs in the past have found that they are an ideal way to begin freshman year. These programs allow you to get to know fellow classmates and learn insider secrets about life at GW from upperclassmen. In order to reserve your place in any of these programs, make sure to include your preference on your CI registration.

Community Building Community (CBC) is a two-and-a-half day community service program, during which time participants are involved in projects related to the environment, hunger, homelessness, and youth advocacy, among others areas in order to build a strong community.

Project Exploration (PE) is one of the most amazing and exciting ways to begin your college experience! You have 5 different programs to choose from where you can enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities including climbing, whitewater rafting, surfing, backcountry hiking, kayaking and mountain biking. You will also have the opportunity to meet dozens of other freshmen and interact with some of the most amazing upperclassmen who will help you learn about life at GW.

Experience DC (EDC) Experience DC is a two and a half day program that will expose participants to all that DC has to offer.  Depending on which track you choose, you will receive personalized guided tours of several of the Smithsonian museums, government buildings, monuments and other DC landmarks.  You'll dine at cultural hot spots and visit one of the nations's most famous theaters.  Please join us on one of four tracks: Intro to DC; Arts & Culture of DC; Diversity in the City; and History of DC; and take this opportunity to learn how to get around the city and make friends in the Nation's Capital before school even starts!

The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) enables freshmen to explore leadership principles and put those principles into action! Participants will attend a team development course and will also explore leadership in the local DC community throughout the fall semester. (Transfer students are not eligible for ELP.)

Please note that you cannot simultaneously register for CBC, PE, and Experience DC, as the dates for those programs overlap. International students should not register for CBC or PE as they conflict with International Orientation.  These special programs have limited spaces available, so if you are interested in participating, please register as soon as possible.  Please also note that there are additional fees associated with participation in special programs. Students participating in pre-semester programs (as with any outdoor activity) carry a risk of personal injury.
