College Credit

Assuming there is no duplication of coursework, a maximum of 24 credits may be assigned upon admission to the University for a combination of credits earned through examination (e.g., AP, IB, CLEP) from service schools, from noncollegiate organizations, and by nontraditional methods.

In most cases, advanced placement credit is given for scores of 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement (AP) Examination.  Check the
AP Credit Chart for GW's course equivalents for AP subject tests.  If you do not have the results of the AP exams at the time you register for classes, you may possibly enroll in courses for which you subsequently receive advanced placement credit. If so, you should drop such courses and substitute other required or elective courses. You may not receive duplicate credit for course work and examinations. Consult your academic advisor for assistance.

GW awards anywhere from 3 to 8 credit hours for International Baccalaureate (IB) Higher-Level scores of 6 and above.  No credit will be assigned for English B or for subsidiary-level examination scores.  Students may receive advanced placement credit for the IB Higher-Level Examination.  Check the
IB Credit Chart for GW's course equivalents.
