Greek Life

At GW, Greek Life is just one part of a balanced undergraduate experience. Your fraternity or sorority experience is a great way to create a sense of home within the wonders of GW and the city. It is all about friendship, leadership, scholarship, community service, philanthropy, and brotherhood/sisterhood that complement your classroom experience. It’s about being a part of a community with over 1,500 undergraduate Greek-affiliated students on campus. It’s about enhancing the GW and DC communities through service and social functions. It’s about traditions and establishing life-long friendships. Learn more about joining this vibrant part of the GW community by visiting us online at http://gwired.gwu.edu/greek.

Sorority recruitment provides incoming students the opportunity to get a closer look at Greek organizations and the many roles they play in the betterment of the GW and DC communities. Also known as the new member "intake" or "rush," recruitment ensures growth, renewal, and continuation and is the most important factor in maintaining the livelihood of the Greek community. It is a time for new and current students to meet other recruits, in addition to experienced upperclassman who can impart their wisdom and guidance, as well as offer a hand in friendship.

Sorority Panhellenic recruitment (for women) will take place from from September 19-22, 2008. Registration is required for all interested women. There is a fee for registration and materials will be available during CI, as well as at the beginning of the school year.

Inter-Fraternity Council rush (for men) will be held in October 2008, but registration is not required.

MGC and NPHC chapters conduct new member intake on an individual chapter basis, typically in the spring semester. Watch for flyers and other posted notices for more information.

We encourage students to become involved in student organizations and to consider joining a fraternity or sorority. Membership in a fraternity or sorority provides the opportunity for a lifetime of friendship, leadership, and education.
