Career Resource Room

Walk-in Consulting

Walk-in consulting provides convenient access to career advice without an appointment. Held in our Career Resource Room, students can meet with Peer Career Ambassadors from 1-4pm for quick questions (5 to 10 minutes) related to resumes, cover letters, career resources, upcoming programs, and GWork.  While you’re here, enjoy a cup of coffee, browse our resource library, access GWireless, or use one of our computers.

Resources to assist you in the career exploration process are available in the Career Resource Room (CRR). Staff members are available to assist GW students and alumni by providing information about Center resources and services, career strategies and the job search process. Resources are available for use during business hours only and may not be removed; students may copy information for a small fee.

In an effort to keep career-related information current, the CRR has electronic resources, computers with internet access, career-related websites and weekly field-related newsletter subscriptions available for students.

All full-time, part-time, summer and internship listings are posted online through GWork, the Career Center's job and internship listing service. GWork is an online database containing current job openings exclusively for GW students and alumni.  Computers are available in the CRR for students and alumni to use to review GWork listings.

In addition, the CRR houses a collection of employer literature organized alphabetically in files. Students can research companies to get background information before applying for a job or just learn more about what a particular company offers. Complementary copies of selected literature are available for students.

The CRR reserve collection consists of hundreds of books, trade publications and magazines. The collection highlights topics such as self-assessment, career planning, job search strategies, resume writing, salary negotiation, internships, employer and industry directories and various job market resources.
