Cooperative Education Program Eligibility
Undergraduate Students:
Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS)
Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA)
School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS)
School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS)
- Admitted to the University and enrolled full-time (a minimum of 12 semester hours) while taking courses as a degree-seeking student.
- Completed a minimum of 30 semester hours while maintaining at least a 2.5 grade point average.
- Transfer students may begin a co-op experience as early as their first GW semester provided they meet the credit hour, degree, and GPA requirement. More details are provided in the required co-op orientation.
- Declared an academic major.
- One semester minimum work experience with the same employer.
Graduate Students:

Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD)
School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS)
School of Public Health and Health Services (SPHHS)
- Enrolled as a degree candidate, and taking courses.
- Maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
- One semester minimum work experience with the same employer.

International Students
- F-1 Visa holders must maintain visa status for nine months prior to starting a co-op position. One aspect of this is that a student must have been in-residence in the United States for the nine months before beginning a co-op position.
- International students must discuss any potential employment opportunities with a staff-member of the International Services Office (ISO).
