Information for Parents
Congratulations!! You are a Parent of a College Student! You have done a great job so far to get your student to this point. Everyone here at the George Washington University is confident that your student can and will succeed here.
The Center for Alcohol and other Drug Education serves to educate the campus community, including parents, about alcohol and other drug issues. Our office is a one-stop resource center for students to provide them with information in order to make responsible and healthy decisions regarding alcohol and other drugs. Through collaboration with other service areas and departments on campus, CADE provides programs, services, and resources that encourage students to recognize that their decisions impact not only themselves, but also the greater GW and District of Columbia communities.
College is an exciting time for students and parents alike but it can also bring about changes in the relationship you have with your student. He or she will be away from home, perhaps for the first time and may not admit it, but feels insecure in a new social setting and wants to fit in. And whether you believe it or not, you still have an influence on your student’s decision making and can be a big help in your student's successful transition to college life and even into the work force after graduation. Information from this section of our website is both useful and relevant to every year of college.
