Application Steps

GW requires two forms: the PROFILE and the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Filing these forms by the deadline dates will enable us to consider you for all types of need based aid. GW's Office of Student Financial Assistance reviews each admitted student's family financial circumstances and determines your financial need based on information supplied by the PROFILE and FAFSA.

Application Steps

  • Register for a customized PROFILE form online at www.collegeboard.org.
  • File your PROFILE form with the College Scholarship Service (CSS) and use GW's school code number 5246 to designates us an official recipient of your information.
  • File your FAFSA with the federal processor designation GW to receive your information by using our federal school code, 001444.
  • If you are an Early Decision applicant, you must submit the Early Decision Financial Aid Application. Early Decision applicants are given the same consideration for financial aid as all applicants; however, to receive University aid, ED applicants must meet the stated financial aid deadlines.
  • Once the PROFILE and FAFSA are received by the Office of Student Financial Assistance and you are admitted, we will mail you an estimated award package. All estimated aid packages need to be confirmed before matriculating at GW.

Confirming Your Need Based Award

In order for us to arrive at an estimated award, you need only to submit PROFILE and FAFSA. You are then required to submit the following documents directly to the Office of Student Financial Assistance to confirm the award.

  • Signed copy of applicant's federal tax return and W-2 statements, and, if married or to be married, that of spouse. Signed copy of parent's federal tax return including all schedules and W-2 statements.
  • Tax returns must be for the most recent calendar year prior to the academic year of enrollment (e.g., 2007 returns for enrollment during the 2008-2009 academic year).
  • Non-U.S. citizens who wish to apply for federal aid must provide documentation of permanent resident (immigrant) or refugee status.
