Presidential Scholars in the Arts-Theatre and Dance
GW and Washington, DC offer unique resources in theatre and dance and provide many advantages for theatre scholarship students. Located a few blocks from the Kennedy Center, GW is at the center of the cultural life of Washington, DC. In addition, the Greater Washington area is home to more than seventy-five professional theatres, art galleries, libraries and museums.

2 Theatre studios and 3 dance studios on Foggy Bottom Campus.
A studio and multi-use performance venue are also used on the Mount Vernon Campus.

2 studio spaces on the Foggy Bottom Campus for student groups Scene Shop, Costume Shop, and Design/Drafting studios

Average acting class = 10-14 students
Average dance class = 14-18 students

Access to the vibrant artistic community of Washington, DC provides opportunities for local and national auditions
Our faculty of artist/teachers maintains close relationships with various professional arts organizations in the region, helping our students to make the transition from academia into the professional performing arts world through performance and other field related opportunities.
The abundance of professional theatre & dance organizations in area provides opportunities for internships and other work-study experiences during the academic year and the summer.
Study abroad opportunities include England, Australia, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Spain, and many others.
Classes required for the scholarship have priority or reserved registration, as do certain classes for the major.
Paris: Modernism and the Arts is a summer abroad course developed by theatre and dance department faculty Mary Buckley.
The Dean's Scholars in Shakespeare Program is a co-curricular program for those interested in the performance and study of the works of William Shakespeare. A select group of freshmen have the opportunity to explore their interests through specially tailored introductory courses, guest artists and lecturers, performances and programs provided by The Folgers Shakespeare Library and The Shakespeare Theatre.
Several guest lectures, workshops, and master classes are offered each year for our students.
GW routinely hosts regional conferences such as the American College Dance Festival (ACDFA).
