School of Media and Public Affairs Experience
The School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA), a division of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, takes a dynamic, interdisciplinary approach combining elements of strategic communication, journalism, and political communication with contemporary issues in domestic and international politics. The mission of the School of Media and Public Affairs is to investigate and teach how ideas and information are communicated through media and how media content and institutions function as a central ingredient of a democratic society. Application to SMPA is competitive and requires a special essay found on the GW Application for Admission or on the Supplement to the Common Application. SMPA also accepts applications from current GW students in their sophomore year.
