The Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS), the original foundation
of The George Washington University, incorporates
a number of academic interests: humanities and
foreign language, social sciences, math and sciences,
arts, and preprofessional studies. With nearly 50 majors and 65 minors to choose from, undergraduates have the opportunity to explore multiple areas
of interest thereby offering very flexible and
individualized courses of study. For curriculum requirements and general CCAS information click here.
Columbian College students may pursue specialized
topics of interest as well as conduct research in areas that interest them. First year
students have the unique opportunity to study innovative
topics at the forefront of research through Dean's
Seminars with
accomplished faculty in small classes. For juniors and seniors, undergraduate research
is encouraged and supported through the Luther Rice
Research Fellowships. In addition, students may focus
their study beyond or in combination with their major
through a number of special programs such as the Dean's
Scholars in Globalization, the Shakespeare Scholars,
and accelerated programs leading to a master's degree, an M.D., or a J.D.
