Exploring the City

Washington, DC has one of the largest concentrations of college students and young professionals in the nation. This adds up to some of the best entertainment, first-run movies, networking opportunities, concerts, gallery openings, book-signings, restaurants, professional sports, dance clubs, theatres, blues clubs, jazz clubs, opera, and shopping. Many entertainment venues, such as the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Verizon Center, offer discounted student tickets or cover charges.

Make it a point to visit a few local favorites:

Enjoy the Washington Cathedral with its Bishop's Garden, May Flower Fest, and the ever-watchful stone gargoyles

 

Visit the exhibits of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum which presents over two million visitors a year with a memorable exposure to one of history's darkest chapters

 

Walk through the Maine Avenue Fish Market for the sights, sounds, and smells

 

View the Potomac boulders and cliffs from Chain Bridge

 

Walk through the Beatrix Farrand designed gardens at Dumbarton Oaks

 

Marvel at the "Silver Throne of God" in the Museum of American Art

 

Explore the international jazz section of City Paper

 

Ice skate on the rink in the Sculpture Garden in front of the National Archives

 

Visit the Whistler Peacock Room at the Freer Gallery

 

Pass under the ornate and gilded arched gateway into historic China Town--a landmark to some of the best Dim Sum restaurants in Washington

 

Attend a game at the Verizon Center--home to the NBA Wizards, WNBA Mystics, and NHL Capitals

 

Watch the July 4th fireworks on the National Mall

 

View the Picasso collection at the Kreeger Museum
