Transfer Student Requirements

We prefer that you apply online. The GW Online Application allows you to submit your application in two parts. The first part is basic biographical information which can be easily submitted early in the application process. By submitting the first part of the application early, you have more time to devote to the essays contained in part 2 of the application. In lieu of the GW Online Application, you may also apply using the Common Application, either online or paper, provided a GW Supplement is submitted.

The following credentials are required of all transfer students. Link here for a printable Application Requirements checklist.

  • An official transcript from each institution of higher education previously attended (whether or not credit was earned or is desired) sent directly from the registrar's office to GW's Office of Admissions.
  • A faculty recommendation. A recommendation form is provided in the Application.
  • Essays. The essay questions are given in the Application.

The following credentials are also required of students with less than 30 semester hours of transferable credit. If you are unsure of your credit status, we would advise you to submit these documents to facilitate the review of your application.

  • An official secondary school transcript mailed directly from the high school attended.
  • SAT or ACT test scores sent directly to our Admissions Office by the testing agency. GW's school code for the SAT is 5246 and for the ACT is 0664.
